Welcome! This page gets you productive fast—who to contact, where to find tools, and what to do first. If you’re unsure where to begin, we’ll meet with you for a free consult and point you to the right services.
Quick Start (10–30 minutes)
- Find the right tools (compute, storage, collaboration): browse for campus resources or search the campus IT Service Catalog.
- Spin up computing / notebooks: use Illinois Computes for NO-COST CPU/GPU, VMs, and hosted notebooks (Jupyter/RStudio/VS Code).
- Collect study data (of different risk levels): request access to Illinois REDCap (HIPAA-capable and free for campus).
- Plan & publish your data: consult the Library’s Research Data Service and publish datasets in the Illinois Data Bank (with DOIs).
- Know your data obligations: start with Data Classification and see the CUI policy if applicable. Report incidents 24×7.

Compute & Notebooks
Illinois Computes provides campus compute (CPU/GPU), VMs, and quick access to hosted notebooks (Jupyter/RStudio/VS Code).
Collect Data (REDCap)
Illinois REDCap is a secure, browser-based tool (HIPAA-capable) for surveys and databases; free for Illinois faculty, staff, and students.
Data Analytics
Get Consulting for statistical analysis, survey design, and tools like SPSS, R, Python, SAS, and STATA.
Includes workshops and help finding/analyzing data.
Manage & Publish Data
Get help with data management plans and consultations from the Research Data Service; publish datasets in the Illinois Data Bank with DOIs.
