Every research project requires data of some kind. Data resource needs often differ by discipline, department, and individual research project. The University of Illinois strives to meet these various needs through investment in infrastructure, tools, and services.

DMPTool.org

The DMPTool is a free online wizard that supports the creation of data management plans (DMPs) for a variety of funding agencies, using templates customized to each funding agency's requirements. The University of Illinois is an affiliated institution, so students and faculty can log in to use a version of the tool that is customized for our institution.

Data collection is the process of assembling data to support a project.

Institutional Review Board (IRB)

All research involving human subjects that is conducted at or sponsored by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, whether funded or unfunded and whether conducted by Illinois faculty or others, must comply with applicable policies for the protection of human subjects.

Data analysis lets you answer research questions and ask others in an iterative process.

Workshops / Training

Workshops on using computational tools and methods and managing data are regularly offered. Workshops are offered for all skill levels, from beginner to expert. Analyst Help

Some units provide student help on analytical projects. CITL’s Data Analytics Service provides hands-on consultation support.  The Social Research and Technology Innovation Laboratory pairs student employees with social media analytics projects. The iSchool places graduate students with units and companies.

Publish and Preserve

Publishing and preserving completed research data encourage reproducibility and are requirements of many funding organizations.

Illinois Data Bank

The Illinois Data Bank is a free, self-serve publishing platform that centralizes, preserves, and provides persistent and reliable access to Illinois research data. The Illinois Data Bank only accepts data that are appropriate to make public. Deposited data sets are preserved for a minimum of 5 years.

re3data.org is a global registry of research data repositories that covers research data repositories from different academic disciplines.
